Authenticity

Every rug, on the record

Every rug we sell is hand-knotted and chosen in person in Bangkok. Before it goes online we record where it was woven, roughly when, what it is made of and what condition it is in. That record travels with the rug.

Your certificate

Each rug ships with a signed certificate of authenticity stating:

  • the rug's reference number, matching the website listing
  • country and region of origin
  • approximate age, as a range where the exact year is not known
  • materials of pile and foundation, and knot type
  • size in centimetres and feet
  • condition, including any repairs

How we know

Origin and age are judged by people who have handled rugs for more than 40 years: from the knot type, the wool, the dyes, the design and the weaving technique. Where a rug's history is documented, we say so. Where it is an expert estimate, we say that too.

See for yourself

Turn any hand-knotted rug over. On the back you will see each knot, slightly irregular, with the pattern as clear as on the front. Ask us for a photograph of the back of any rug before you buy.

If we are wrong

If, within one year of delivery, an independent appraiser finds that a rug's origin or construction is materially different from our certificate, we refund it in full, including return shipping.
